Volkman v. Hanover Investments, Inc.. MN personal jurisdiction
Hanover Investments is a Maryland corporation which owns and operates the Maryland corporation which operated Gopher State One Call for 22 years. It was sued in Minnesota and argued that it was not subject to personal jurisdiction in the state. The District Court, Washington County, denied the motion to dismiss, and Hanover appealed.
The Minnesota Court of Appeals held that there was sufficient contact with Minnesota when the corporation entered into a shareholder agreement with a Minnesota resident that conditions the Minnesota resident’s shareholder status on her continued employment in Minnesota.
For that reason, the Court of Appeals affirmed.
